FEEDING SCHOOL

We pay for two teachers, and both of them are able to provide additional educational support for the kids who want or need it. We offer a feeding school program; parents pay 300 Taka per month, which guarantees that six days out of seven, we will feed the kids. If they go to school, and then then come back for extra lessons, they will get a meal attached to that extra instruction. It’s an incentive for kids to come do homework, while also getting the nutrition needed to perform in school. The hope is for all kids to stay in school through to graduation, to keep future opportunities and possibilities open to them – we are trying to maximize those chances.

There has been the occasional parent who can’t afford the 300 Taka, where we have rallied additional supports to help them keep their kids in this program and in school. If they can’t afford 300 Taka a month that means things are really tough for them, because that’s approximately a day and a half, or two day’s wages for a man working in the fields. Some families lose the father who is usually the bread winner, so we have a lot going on for widow supports as well.
